Maine Emergency Rental Assistance Programs
Maine ERAP Treasury Programs:
Maine has $200 million in rent relief funds from the federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program. This program will provide rental and utility relief payments to help eligible renters maintain housing stability. Maine’s Community Action Agencies will review applications, check eligibility, and process payments for eligible expenses on behalf of households.
Maine CARES+ Programs:
The MaineHousing COVID-19 Rent Relief Program is for renters who cannot afford to pay their rent due to circumstances related to the coronavirus pandemic. The program was appropriated $5 million is designed to provide a one time payment of up to $500, until the federal relief funds get to the individuals who need them. This program has been extended to cover April, May and June rents.
Cumberland County is accepting applications from qualifying candidates to help in the prevention of, preparation for, and response to the Coronavirus throughout the Cumberland County Entitlement Jurisdiction (CCEJ). The County is accepting CCEJ wide activities in the following categories:
Food Assistance Programs; Rental Assistance Programs; Homeless Prevention Programs; Small Business Loan/Grant Programs; Job Creation and Retention Programs
In response to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the City of Lewiston will provide funding for relief of rent, mortgage, or utility payments for up to three (3) months to alleviate financial pressure for eligible low-income households that have lost employment income as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The city of Portland is making $500,000 available to help low-income households pay rent and utility bills as a result of the pandemic. The program will provide up to $750 per month for three months of rent assistance, for a total of $2,250, and up to $250 in utility expense assistance, according to a news release.
